Aces and Eights

If you know what that means, then chances are you have played poker a time or two. If you don't know what that means, make sure to read the end of this post. In either case, I want to let you know about a fun event happening this Sunday night at Wild Wing Cafe. It is a free Texas Hold 'Em style poker tournament where you could win cash and prizes. The registration starts at 6pm and the game starts at 7pm. Even if you have never played before, this will be a great place to learn. It is ran by Charlottesville Full House Poker, a new poker group in C'ville, and promises to be a fun time for everyone. Check out their schedule at www.cvillepoker.com to see where they will be other days of the week. Hope to see you on Sunday!

Aces and Eights=The dead man's hand is a two-pair poker hand, namely "aces and eights". The hand gets its name from the legend of it having been the five-card-draw hand held by Wild Bill Hickok at the time of his murder.

Some other interesting names of poker hands:
The Motown= Jacks and Fives (get it? Jackson Five)
The Dolly Parton= 9's and 5's
The Doyle Brunson=10's and 2's
Sailboats= double 7's or in some places, double 4's
Pocket Rockets= A's
The Logan= Jack and 10 suited (yep, that's mine, and it's gaining more and more recognition everyday...pass it on..maybe Sunday night!)
