You Light Up My Life

We are extremely fortunate to have such a beautiful and nationally recognized collegiate institution as the University of Virginia here in Charlottesville. I may be slightly biased, as I did graduate from there. Tonight is the annual Lighting of The Lawn at 6pm near the steps of the Rotunda. Hope to see you there! - A

What a Thanksgiving!...and things I forgot

We'll get to the Jolly Old Elf in a minute. I had forgotten to mention that I eat out...a lot! And on Monday, we went to Duner's to have a birthday dinner for my friend Tracy. If you are looking for a place with great variety, especially tasty seafood selections, then this could be a good choice. (See pic below of loudest table at Duner's on Nov. 20th.) Thursday, it was off to Martinsville to dine with the fam. The picture to the left is of Santa after the world's shortest Christmas parade in Barracks Road on Nov. 24th. Despite its lack of length, the parade brings out huge crowds. My favorite parade float/display/entry...the bagpipes. They make me feel mountain fresh! I forgot to get a picture of them, though. Lately, I seem to be forgetting quite a bit.

Happy Thanksgiving!

(Rose and Mickey wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, too!)
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I truly have a great deal to be thankful for. I'm thankful that the Turkey Trot at Boar's Head is not accepting any more entrants. (Good luck if you are in it! The Turkey Trot happens each Thanksgiving morning in Charlottesville and benefits the UVA Children's Hospital. It's a great cause, but I am pooped this year.) I am thankful for Steve, good friends and family, my furry babies, Advil, bordeaux, New Balance shoes, and the new CD from Amy Winehouse. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Busy Weekend- As It Should Be Here

(UVA Men's Basketball at John Paul Jones Arena)
Sun-My first visit to the new John Paul Jones Arena did not disappoint, even though the UVA Men were playing some high school team. (Just kidding Morgan State!) JPJ is an incredible facility, which has already played home to some incredible concerts and events. Cirque du Soleil, Kenny Chesney, and James Taylor have visited The Jack (I prefer The John, but the rest of C'ville doesn't like that for some reason.). Besides a big basketball season, the Jack will also welcome Justin Timberlake, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Billy Joel in the near future. After the game, my friend and I ventured out to Continental Divide, home to the Red, Hot, and Blues nachos. Out of this world good! Then on to Wild Wing Cafe to watch some football. WWC-great wings, beer and sports.
The weekend started off with the traditional date night, dinner and a movie. Happy Feet is not only an enjoyable movie for the kids, but a stealth commentary on the environment and intolerance. A must see playing at Seminole Cinema 4. Saturday was a fun night with music trivia at Buffalo Wild Wings. (I won!) You can play trivia there any time that they are open. It's quite addictive. Hope your weekend was great!
(Beth Duffy of CBS 19 welcomes a student to the arena floor to find a Simon gift pack. Better pic below.)

Edwin McCan't

(Edwin McCain at Starr Hill - 11/09/06)
If you have seen the Edwin McCain trio perform before in Charlottesville, you probably expected a different show than what you got last night. While musically Edwin and the boys did a good job, Edwin was not his usual bubbly, funny, story-telling self that I had been looking forward to all week. Sure, he told a couple of stories and played the two songs that everyone knows, but having seen the trio before, I just expected more. He even neglected to play the 'single' from his new album which is being pushed at radio. (It's a great song, by the way.) While some may say that is cool, I say why not play a song which is really good and may get your album sales up. Heck, we may have even gotten a story out of it! Or not. - A

I'm Baaack

When I started this, I truly wanted to update it everyday, because there really is something to do everyday of the week in this "World Class City." However, I had to leave lovely C'ville over the weekend and blah, blah, blah, excuse, excuse, excuse...couldn't update. This week, however, is proving to be 'the bomb,' and it all started last night. I joined my friend Tracy for her early birthday dinner. Then, it was on to Starr Hill. I had never seen Carbon Leaf in concert before, but I will be at all of their shows from now on! Wow! Why aren't these guys uber-famous already!? It always amazes me when crap bands make it big, and really talented ones don't. There's still time for Carbon Leaf, though, so keep your fingers crossed. (By the way, I did vote yesterday and hope you did, too.) Coming up: Edwin McCain on Thursday. I can't wait!--A

Boring Halloween

I had planned on going out last night and tearing up the town with my friend Beth, but she had too much fun at the Method Man show the night before. Instead, I stayed home and gave out candy to kids. This was nice, until the grown-ups started asking for candy. I kid you not, I had adults, with their children, shoving their bags in my face saying "trick or treat!" Don't these adults realize that if you are going to celebrate Halloween after the age of 21, it should involve alcohol and not candy solicitation? (is that a word?) The picture to the left is from a Halloween party 2 years ago, and yes I was older than 21.
