Drinkin' Lots of Carrot Juice

Last night it was time to get back in the game. After a weekend helping a friend of mine with his catering business for graduation weekend, I needed to blow off some steam. I had been to Cheeseburger in Paradise a couple of times before and been very disappointed, but I heard that if you sit at the bar, you get better service. Plus, friends told me that the 'sunset celebration' really puts you in the 'Key West party' mindset. So, I got a few fellas to meet me there for some after-work fun. (pictured: Murph, PJ, me, and Regan) Sure enough, the service at the bar from John and Kevin was prompt and friendly. My 'no beef eating' self was pleased to see that the menu had changed a bit to include turkey burger and veggie burgers as an option. Even though we only ordered appetizers (and, well, beer), I was impressed. The crab, spinach, and asiago cheese dip was delish. The only disappointment about the visit was that there was no sunset celebration. John informed me that they only do that when the place is crowded or on weekends. (Evidently, this celebration thing is where the bartenders get on the bar and do a toast for the whole restaurant right at sunset. In case you haven't been to Key West, they have a big celebration in Mallory Square every night at sunset.) Bummer!
We never got around to ordering an actual cheeseburger, so I will have to go back. But once you've had a bad experience at a place, you have to ease yourself back into it slowly. Also, not having been in the C'ville 'scene' for a while, I had to ease back into that, too.
Hope your week has started as nicely as mine has! - A
